STEP ONE
Verifying Dial Up Networking
and TCP/IP is installed
First we must verify that Dial Up Networking
is installed. Go to Control Panel, then double click on the Add/Remove
programs icon.
Click on the Windows Setup Tab as shown below. Next, double click the Communications entry.
Check the Dial Up Networking Box (if its already
checked, and you have TCP/IP installed, skip to step 2) and click OK at
the bottom.
Click OK at the bottom, then OK again to exit the
Add/Remove Programs box. Windows98 will now copy files from your CD or
diskettes. Once all files are copied, it will prompt you to reboot. Do
so.
Once your rebooted, go to Control Panel, then double
click the Network icon. You will see something similar to the screen
below.
Remove Client for Microsoft Networks, Client for
NetWare Networks, NetBEUI, and IPX/SPX compatible protocol. These are not
necessary to connect to the Internet. All you should have left is Dial
Up Adapter.
Next, Click Add. Double click Protocol.
Choose Microsoft, then double click TCP/IP.
You will now be presented with the following screen:
Click OK at the bottom to save your changes.
You are now ready to proceed with Step Two, configuring your Dial Up Connection
for CU Online.
STEP TWO
Now you are ready to set up your Dial Up Connection. Double click
on the My Computer icon. Next, double click on the Dial Up Networking folder.
You will now create a new dial up entry. If you already
have icons in the folder, just double click the Make New Connection icon.
Name the entry "CU Online", and select the modem you'd like to use. Click
Next to continue.
Enter our phone number - your chose at signup where prompted,
then click Next.
Click Finish to continue.
You will now see your new CU Online Dial Up icon.
Right click the icon and choose Properties.
Click on the Server Type button at the bottom. Uncheck
all the boxes except Enable Software Compression and TCP/IP. Your screen
should look like the one below. Click OK to exit the dialog, then OK again
to save the changes.
Your setup is now complete. Double click on CU Online
Dial Up icon. Fill in your username and password, and click
Connect.
